Notion web clipper database choice menus before saving online articles

Checking Clipper Behavior Before Saving a Full Article

Before the web clipper finishes saving an article into Notion, the destination database is selected. Opening the clipper extension without paying attention to the database name displayed at the top of the popup might send the article to some other workspace, team space, or page. Checking that database choice ahead of time prevents needless sorting through mismatched pages later.

While you are on the article you intend to save, pull up the clipper extension. The top portion of the clipper window shows the current Notion workspace and database name. When you spot a name that does not match the database used for saved articles, tap that name to reveal the list and pick the correct one before clicking Save Page.

Comparing Workspace and Page Options in the Clipper List

The databases and pages visible in the clipper popup are limited to those you actually have access to, but the order may not reflect what you use most. Recent activity tends to push some workspaces and pages toward the top, pushing older or less frequented databases lower in the list. Taking a moment to scroll through the entire list prevents sending the article to a workspace you hardly open.

Having spread articles across various databases for topics such as recipes, reading lists, or project clips means paying attention to the page icon or emoji besides the database name. Notion supports a unique icon for each database, so a fast glance at it often confirms the correct destination. When the right database does not emerge as the first option, scroll down or begin typing part of the database name into the search area within the clipper popup.

Reviewing Common Clipper Destination Mistakes

A quick table of common database selection errors can help you spot the problem before the article is saved. Each row below describes what to check, where to look in the clipper popup, and what action to take before the save completes.

These three checks take only a few seconds but prevent the most common clipper mistakes. Noticing the wrong workspace or database after the article is saved means you can move the page to the correct database using Notion’s Move To option from the page menu. However, moving a page after the fact adds extra steps, so confirming the destination before saving is the smoother habit.

Setting a Default Database for Faster Clipping

Saving most articles to the same Notion database means you can set that database as the default destination in the clipper settings. Open your Notion workspace in a browser, click your workspace name in the top-left corner, and select Settings & Members. Under the Clipper section, look for Default Save Location and choose the database you use most often. After this setting is saved, the clipper popup will automatically select that database when you clip any article.

Even with a default database set, glance at the clipper popup before confirming the save. Clipping an article while working in a different workspace or team space may mean the default does not apply, and the article could be saved to a different location. Keeping the habit of a quick visual check ensures that the default setting works as expected and that the article lands exactly where you want it.
